Intro to Catalan
The purpose of the course is to introduce the student into the basic Catalan structures and vocabulary in order to achieve the competence of a basic user of Catalan language. The goal of the course is to reach level A2 (according to the European reference framework): a user able to understand and produce common expressions and sentences related with the immediate environment (yourself, your family, your country, your daily life, your past, etc.). A communicative methodology and a task-based approach is used throughout the course. Cultural contents will appear only indirectly in order to bring catalan socioculture reality closer.
Prerequisites: none.
Intermediate Catalan The purpose of the course is to deepen into the knowledge the student has acquired in the previous course “Intro to Catalan”. The goal of the course is to reach level B1 (according to the European reference framework): a user able to understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters and able to produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest. A communicative methodology and a task-based approach is used throughout the course. Cultural contents will appear only indirectly in order to bring catalan socioculture reality closer. Prerequisites: Intro to Catalan/A2 level. Symposium: Catalan culture and society This is a content course covering topics regarding Catalan history, society, literature and visual arts. Students will be required to actively participate through readings, presentations and audiovisual materials. By the end of the semester students will be familiar with the main social and cultural issues of the Catalan-speaking territories. Spanish proficiency required. Prerequisites: None. The course Intro to Catalan is not required. No previous knowledge of Catalan language is required. |
